“If I can give someone a moment of relief from their struggle then I know my work is not only worth it but necessary.”

Adam Wilber: On Why

“I do what I do because we really never know what people are going through behind the walls they put up and sometimes a simple laugh, smile or moment of astonishment can have a bigger impact then we could have ever imagined...”

For a long time I thought my work was not to be considered essential or important but rather a luxury that some could afford but didn’t really need.

That was until I performed a show in Mass and had a woman approach me upon the conclusion of the event to tell me how thankful she was for the magic because it’s the first time she has seen her son smile in over 3 years.

This young man was suffering through a handful of illnesses and seemed to have lost his light through the years of struggle. But seeing a magic show based around the impossible becoming reality seemed to spark something inside him that she haven’t seen in years.

As she told me this her eyes filled with tears and she reached out and gave me the most heartfelt hug ever.

It was one of the highlights of my performing career and it’s the moment I realized why I do what I do and that it truly is important.

If I can give someone a moment of relief from their struggle then I know my work is not only worth it but necessary.

One of my favorite thoughts on being an entertainer comes from Stan Lee and it sums up perfectly my WHY…

“I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: Entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it, they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing.”
